New COVID-19 Safety Regulations & Protocols

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are implementing the following regulations at the Xuan Ju Daoist Center to promote cleanliness of the facility and permit safe participation in retreats and workshops while ensuring the safety of our community of members and attendees.

Recommended Distancing Modifications

  • Masks should be worn at all times even during practice.  Monitor body temperature in the morning and evening.  The center will have dispensing stations (hand sanitizers, wipes, and paper towels) at the entrance, sitting room, kitchen, toilets, and training hall.  High touch surfaces include tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks will be routinely cleaned and disinfected.

Accommodation

  • As much as possible, sharing rooms should be prevented, unless guests are from the same household.  This will limit accommodation available at Xuan Ju. Interested students can pitch a tent on Xuan Ju grounds as one possible solution to maintain distance.

  • Clean and fresh bed sheets/linens/towels will be provided. Participants are responsible for making their own beds and stripping them after their stay.  This is to minimize handling of objects.   You are also welcome to bring your own sheets/linens/towels if you prefer.

Bathroom Use

  • Washing hands is a mandatory practice for all.  Bathroom use should involve cleaning in between use. Disinfecting toilet seats before and after is mandatory. Disinfectant wipes or sprays, paper towels, toilet paper will be made readily available in all of the bathrooms.

  • The above rule should be applied for showering. Bringing in your own towel(s) is mandatory as well as your own toiletries such as shampoo and conditioners, body soap, toothpaste, etc.

Kitchen Use

  • As much as possible, bringing your own food is highly recommended. You can store it in a cooler or in the refrigerator.  You can heat up or prepare food in the kitchen provided that you clean before and after each use using stringent cleaning measures. Disposable gloves will be made available in the kitchen.

  • Pre-cooked meals, bagged food, takeaways like pizza are a practical option and disposable utensils are also highly recommended.

  • There should be no more than two people in the kitchen preparing food; therefore, dining should be staggered. Feel free to situate yourself anywhere around the facility to maintain a safe distance from others while eating.  Please ensure your area is clean afterwards to avoid any unwelcome guests.

  • If communal food is opted and preferred by most retreaters, buffet-style dining should be avoided. Serving utensils and individual chopsticks should be available at all times including disposable gloves. Servers and cooks should wear gloves and masks. Maintain individual serving options as much as possible. Dishes should only be served by an assigned individual.

Recommended distancing during practice

  • Masks should be worn at all times during practice. Frequent breaks will be given.

  • If wearing a mask during practice is impossible for some students then, placement for these students during practice has to be 10 feet apart or more.

  • Physical contact should be limited.  Frequent hand cleaning with soap-and-water or hand sanitizer is highly recommended.
